A few of my friends were vacationing in a country where they didn't speak the language very well. Once they realized that their cab driver was being dishonest, they wanted to insult him, but lacking the grammatical acumen, they ended up telling him "thou is terrible."
So, we ended up feeling the same way our last night in Koh Chang. Before I begin I should also say that the culprit in our tale is British and speaks English as a first language. However, like our friends, we knew we were being ripped off and didn't feel like we had any recourse.
We had asked our inn keeper too book a airport shuttle for us the morning of our last day (it was actually his suggestion). It was an hour ride, and it would have cost around $8. I saw him that night, and confirmed that he had did that. He said he had, but he also seemed very nervous, and a half hour later, once we had already gone to sleep, he came to our room and told us that somehow the airport shuttle people had lost our reservation, and our only recourse was to take a cab for $30.
So, the moral of the story is this:
Koh Chang is great. It is a beautiful island, and we had a fantastic time there. But if you are thinking of going, let us know, and we will tell you which inn you should avoid.
